Meet Our Maths Tutors

Davina Mathis
I am currently enrolled at university studying towards my master's degree in Biomedical Sciences (with a year in industry), a 5-year programme. I am excited to expand my knowledge in areas such as anatomy, microbiology and pharmacology.
After my degree, I am hoping to further my education and obtain a PhD.
At GCSE level, I achieved 9A*s and an A; 6 grade 9s (high A*) including Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. I studied at Hills Road Sixth Form College in Cambridge and achieved A*AAA in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and EPQ respectively. This was possible due to the hard word and the constant excellence I strive to achieve.
As a tutor, lessons will be tailored to meet individual needs. Using my recent and first-hand experience of both the GCSE and A level programmes, I will be able to support students to achieve their potential in a nurturing environment.

I am studying physics at university, a subject often seen as being 'applied mathematics'. Through this, I plan to gain a greater understanding of how the world works as well as a broader range of knowledge that will be useful in any future career paths I take.
In my GCSEs, I achieved four grade 9s (A*+), two grade 8s (A*) and four grade 7s (A).
In Sixth Form, I decided to continue with my passion for learning while challenging myself with four A-levels: Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, and Physics, achieving ABBA respectively.
During my GCSE and A Level experiences, I noticed the significant impact of teachers who adopt a more personalised teaching approach compared to teachers who simply read off of a screen. It is abundantly clear that having teaching tailored to a student is much better for their academic progress, and granted, this can be very difficult to achieve in an ordinary classroom. As a tutor, I aim to personalise my teaching and find the best way for my students to learn, to enable them to achieve their academic goals.

Jeanna Thompson
I am at university studying Earth and Planetary sciences, where I plan to obtain a bachelor of science degree before moving onto a master's degree with my interests focused in planetary science and volcanology.
At secondary school I achieved 10 GCSEs grade 7-9 including a 9 in Further Mathematics, Biology, and Geography. Additionally, I have 4 A levels at grade A-B in Geography, Biology, Mathematics, and German.
I would take pride in tutoring my students to achieve their greatest potential and help them feel more confident in their studies. Furthermore, I have personally had many years of tutoring in the past to help with my A Levels and because of that, I understand the benefit of tutoring and how best to tailor lessons to suit a student's ability and needs.

Shaw Chiba
I am at university studying Earth and Planetary Sciences. However, I am currently looking at changing my programme of studies to an engineering discipline having discovered that I greatly enjoy physics and mathematics.
My secondary school qualifications include 10 GCSES from grades 6-8 with 8s in Science, Geography, and Mandarin. Having greatly enjoyed GCSE science, I decided to take Biology, Chemistry, and Physics at A Level and achieved A*A and B respectively as well as an A in Geography.
I have experienced both sides of the tutoring partnership, having thoroughly enjoyed helping fellow students and also received tutoring alongside taking my own studies. Both, I believe, contributed to my exam successes. Through my understanding and helpful nature, alongside breaking down complex subjects, I hope to enable students to achieve their goals. I am also a firm believer that asking questions and being curious is highly rewarding and therefore encourage tutees to raise any issues or queries.

Emily Moffat
I am studying Biomedical Science at university pursuing an Integrated Master's programme. I am really interested in how cancer works and its interaction with the immune system. I plan to pursue a PhD in cancer biology after I finish my current course because I am fuelled by continuously wanting to learn and understand how things work.
My secondary school qualifications include 9 GCSEs from grades 8-9 including Triple Science, English, Maths and Further Maths. I also achieved 1 GCSE at grade 7. At the end of my A Level programme of studies, I achieved AAAB in Chemistry, Biology, EPQ and English Literature respectively, at Hills Road, Cambridge.
I strongly believe that tutoring is an invaluable resource for shaping a child's education, as it allows for personalized attention tailored to their unique needs and learning styles, in a way that a traditional classroom setting cannot. Over the past year, I have volunteered at a homework club for primary school children, an experience that has been both insightful and rewarding. I am confident that the skills I have gained will enable me to effectively support my tutees in their learning journey.
As a tutor, I strive to be enthusiastic and patient, creating a supportive learning environment where each student can grow in confidence and develop a work ethic that will help them reach their full potential.

Samuel Arthur Boateng
I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in Molecular Genetics at the University of Leicester, following my Bachelor's degree in Forensic Science. My academic interests focus on molecular biology and bioinformatics, particularly their applications in Forensics.
My academic journey has been shaped by collaborative study and peer tutoring experiences, through which I both received guidance and provided support to classmates. These experiences enhanced my understanding of effective study methods and strategies for academic resilience.
As a tutor, I will leverage this insight to design targeted lessons that simplify complex concepts and promote independent and collaborative learning. I will prioritise understanding each student's unique needs and encourage questions to help them achieve their academic goals and build confidence in their studies.

Onyinyechi Anyanwu
Hello, I'm Onyinyechi, a passionate tutor with a strong background in both Mathematics and English.
I hold a degree in Aerospace Engineering and have recently completed a Master's in Engineering Business Management.
Throughout my academic journey, I have completed in prestigious competitions: Mathematics Olympiad, American Maths Challenge and Cowbellpedia Mathematics.
My love for numbers was further solidified when I was awarded 'Best in Mathematics' in secondary school as well as receiving the 'Best in English Language' award also in my secondary years.
Tutoring has played a significant role in helping me achieve these milestones, and now I want to pay it forward. I aim to create a positive, engaging and supportive environment for my students, inspiring them to build confidence in their abilities and reach their full potential in both Maths and English. I believe in tailoring my teaching methods to suit each student's unique needs, ensuring that learning becomes both fun and effective.

Tayla Dean
I am a first-year university student, studying Pharmacy with an integrated Masters degree.
I received an A*A*A in my A-levels for Maths, Chemistry and Biology respectively and wrote
10 IGCSEs, attaining 7 A*s and 3As.
I have always had a very keen interest in science subjects, from logically solving Maths
equations step by step, to learning about how the body functions in Biology.
My A-Level Maths teacher inspired me to become a tutor with his love and passion for
teaching. I realised the impact a good tutor could have on someone and their attitude
towards the subject. I strongly believe that when you enjoy a subject and what you are doing,
it becomes easy and that’s when students really reach their full potential. A good teacher is
key for this, thus my motivation to help inspire young students, just as individuals have
done for me in the past.
As a tutor, I will mentor young students by doing lots of practice questions, past papers and
overall making the content easier to grasp by using relatable examples. It is additionally
important to create a safe environment for learning, where mistakes and questions are
welcome, as well as tailoring the teaching to the student’s needs.

Aimee Hynard
I have graduated from university this year with a degree in Economics and I am looking to further my studies by completing a postgraduate course in the near future.
My secondary school qualifications include 12 GCSEs - seven grade 9s (high A*) including Maths and Further Maths, three grade 8s (A*) and two grade 7s (A). I then went on to complete three A-Levels in Maths, Further Maths and Economics, achieving A*, A, B respectively.
I am passionate about tutoring students in Maths because I genuinely enjoy helping others build confidence in a subject that many find challenging. Mathematics is not just about numbers - it teaches problem solving, logical thinking and resilience, skills that are valuable beyond the classroom.
I find it incredibly rewarding to see students overcome their doubts, grasp new concepts, and achieve their goals through consistent support and encouragement.
My aim is to make Maths more accessible and enjoyable, tailoring my approach to each student's needs so they feel empowered to succeed.
